Last week, I spoke with an Amazon specialist in graphic design to make sure that all my images were optimized. Today,I will share with you the key points that I learntand that helped me with product conversion.
It sounds obvious that the photos I used in my Amazon product listing are taken professionally. However, I noticed that a good Amazon photo does not only need to be taken professionally but it also needs to be Amazon ready.
If you want your product images to be “Amazon ready” to maximize your conversion rates, then follow the below-mentioned points:
- First image has to be on a plain white background (sounds obvious doesn’t it but Amazon can remove your initial image if you don’t follow this)
- It must be a high quality photo having at least 300 dpi and 2000 x 2000
- Use a few different lifestyle photo and product in use photo’s
The main purpose of having a lifestyle image is to educate your customers and buyers on how your products are used and generate someexcitement about the benefits that it brings.
Some of the ways you can convey this with photography is lifestyle images that promote a conversion. A few techniques you can use are:
- Get the image to tells a story (maybe the life cycle of product from receiving to opening to using it)
- It shows how the product is being used
- An image that shows an emotional connection to the customer
- An image that connects motion with benefits in a photo (e.g. movement, running etc)
If you can find a professional photo studio that takes pictures and also photoshops them to create lifestyle images, then it makes it so much easier
Another way to promote conversion is to add bonus sales images. A bonus image is where you get a discount if buy 2 or more units. This images show the discounts a customer can get once they purchase two or more product.
Often there will be a picture with 2 products and 5% discount images, 3 products and 10% discount image and 4 or more products and 15% discount image.
Amazon loves this as increases the orders per customers which is a key metric they use in evaluating an listings performance

This week I’m really excited to about a chat I had with a photography/graphic artists specialist to make sure all my product images were optimized and working the best.
I was really pushing to get his feedback, because I knew intellectually the photos need to be great and I thought they were decent. Some of them are really good. They’re all professionally taken but they just weren’t the right type and would want to share it with you. Today the insights I had about the photos I had made originally and professionals taken, what they need to get to.
So with this guy we’re just going to work through product by product and just how do we want the products that I’ve been selling the longest and it is a really good product and how Amazon Seller Consulting Services are going to make the selling more. It has a decent number of reviews it has about 250 all so it’s decent but not huge, and it gets sales every day so that’s what I like about it. But when we went and looked at it the images to be frank were pretty crappy. The competitors in this space aren’t flash. It’s not like it’s a lifestyle product where they’ve got really good product images but more product images weren’t up to scratch.
We went through it and really stepped out step by step what I need to do and that’s what I’ll share with you guys today. The first thing is all my photos were taken professionally but they weren’t really ready for Amazon or e-commerce. Nothing against guys I used in the past, they’ve done a job for me. But they didn’t really know how to make it look great on Amazon.
And the first thing it came in was your first image needs to be in the white background. I knew that and I just wanted it explained to everyone what the rules of Amazon are and how Amazon Seller Consulting Services help us to achieve it, so your first image must be only on a white background. Your other images the next two to seven can be lifestyle photos, logos added, benefits added all types of stuff. But the first one must be on a white background only and a minimum you want to look at a 300 dpi and as big as possible so when you zoom over it you get all the great effects.
So, the key findings about the review of my ones, was it didn’t tell a story. This product needs a slight explanation of how to use it and to know you can easily go with Amazon FBA Expert . And because I’ve been around this product for so long it was really obvious. But he came in had look and he said look I actually don’t know how the product works. Your descriptions sort of explaining for read in detail, but I can’t actually tell how to use it by looking at the images.
The first thing he said is your second image needs to be a lifestyle image, that tells a story of how to use a product he said make a quadrant say for images within one and a show step one step two step three step four and actually steps you through how to use the product that could easily be undertook by the Amazon Seller Consulting Services.
So, this means a photographer will have to do some extra work to make it more of a lifestyle but that was really the first initial feedback. It actually explains how to use a product. Now, for something it is probably quite easy like a bike pump you know how to use a bike pump. Health tablets is pretty obvious how to use those but if it’s a product that needs some explanation, you have to educate the user through imagery and show that life story of how to use a product, the second one was about lifestyle shots I did have one lifestyle photo but it was crappy in order to not let it happen to you get over to Amazon Seller Consulting Services.
He really emphasizes to a point, is you’ve got to get that emotional connection of having a product used but also how it’s being used and not a static picture of it just on a shelf somewhere. But actually, how it’s being used by a person, because in mentally they actually think Ah! so this is how do it. It actually walks the person through the process.
One of the really good things you can do if you got something like maybe a cleaning product that has a before and after effect, maybe even show the before and the after what it’s like by using the product that won’t relate to all products but it’s a real winner if it’s a product that has a benefit that can be immediate so that some of the initial feedback. The third part was you really need good quality lifestyle images, having a lifestyle images where it’s being used actually show the benefits of it and I’ve done this before but it was just the benefits on a white background.
You need to take it to the next level, what you want to do is actually have a lifestyle photo. I want to mean lifestyle for example, if you’re selling a running watch you actually want to have someone running and looking their watches are going just not the watch on a white background. You want maybe, a happy person who is fit and looks at having a great time and that person visualize in their head. Oh! that can be me I can be running down on a sunny day looking great. Check my running watch for my heartbeat is. That’s what a lifestyle photo is. Thanks to Amazon FBA Expert for making this clear to us.
So, with lots of photos on you and your benefits. I’d made the mistake of adding the benefits just on a white background and that’s halfway there because that educates user but what you want to do is a connect motion with images with the benefits. So that was a third eye opener for me. Get your lifestyle photos awesome and also have the benefits on there.
I actually asked my previous photographer to do these lifestyle shots for me as recommended by Amazon FBA Expert and they just didn’t hit the mark so I really recommend using a third party for that. In terms, of using photography service but also one that knows the demands of Amazon knows the demands of e-commerce so they can actually build lifestyle shots and look you’ve already got your photos taken and the great ones.
Then I’d recommend sitting to these guys and for Normally about 70-80 dollars you can add about two to three lifestyle images for you and that’s a real win because you’ll definitely get a bump in sales and can easily get over to Amazon Product Listing Optimization. So, we’re just going through the whole process of reinvigorating all our listings one by one and we don’t work in our product listings and our titles.
It will be really inviting you to see what the boost is, also what you can do is have some other bonus images what Amazon Seller Consulting Services are up to, where actually have a product image. Have initial products such as the for example the running watch but maybe also the sweatband as well. And it says popular buyers and have an image of the running watch and the sweatband and maybe a discount. You are actually educating the people to buy them together and when the big benefits of that is that soon. With Amazon there’s a feature it says fruitlessly put together.
If you do that then you pinned in the bottom of frequently bought together and you’ll naturally get these sales where people buy one of yours and they naturally buy the next product as well. So, it’s really powerful stuff on how you can get great results from very simple things.
So, to recap this, look at it at a high level if you don’t have professional photos first thing you need to do is get that done with Amazon Seller Consulting Services, as an absolute minimum and I recommend that to all people. When you get the photos done make sure you use a company that’s in the e-commerce Amazon space, they really know how to make their product stand out.
I’ve used three different product photography’s and none of them really hit the spot well, they’re all good professional photos but they don’t have that lifestyle image.
Make sure the photographer actually has a department or has the skills to build lifestyle image. When you build that lifestyle image, make sure it’s aspirational, seen to have the runners watch make sure it’s a sunny day tell that make sure the person looks happy. Is it female Is it male? Maybe do both. A female and a male, go for both markets make them look fit and happy. Looking at the watch the person looks at it they think wow that could be me when they do it.
The other one is make sure you add your benefits to the lifestyle photos. So, you had the benefits of lifestyle photo with the takes and the arrow going down to it so people think wow great photo that could be me. Plus, these all the benefits described at Amazon Seller Consulting Services and lastly at the discounts if you sell it to buy multiple ones at an image of buy one get expensive to buy to get X percent, buy 3 get X percent off.
That really encourages people to buy multiple. And lastly if you have complementary products put an image together where it says Product A and your product B binds together as a bundle and they get a discount. So, if you put those together put them in place it will make a tremendous difference to your Amazon Product Listing Optimization.
